Mahesh N Dekate is Partner at Mumbai office. He completed his LLB from the University of Mumbai in 2013 and went on to complete a PhD in “Critical Review and Evaluation of Public Partnership Private Projects for Social Cause with Special Reference to Road Infrastructure and State Of Maharashtra India”, at Nagpur University in 2017. Mahesh also obtains degrees in M. Tech. (Structural Engineering), 1988 (Nagpur University), and B.E. (Civil Engineering), 1984 (Nagpur University). His total work experience spans across 40 years.
Mahesh is an expert in maritime, real estate and infrastructure laws, and handles complex litigation and arbitration. His rigorous academic background underpins a legal practice grounded firmly in technical and regulatory understanding.
At MV Kini, Mahesh leverages his multidisciplinary background to guide clients in maritime, real estate infrastructure ventures. His deep engagement with project planning and execution allows him to anticipate legal challenges arising in public-private partnerships, port development, township projects and commercial real estate transitions. He provides comprehensive legal advice—from due diligence and contract drafting to regulatory approvals and project implementation.
Mahesh joined MV Kini Law Firm in 2023. After retiring from Public Works Department (PWD), MAHARASHTRA (INDIA) from the position of Secretary (Technical). Prior to which Mahesh served at the Maharashtra Maritime Board as Chief Engineer in the Public Works Department on deputation. In this capacity, he oversaw key stages of Sagarmala projects—conceptualising, preparing estimates, planning and implementing jetties, water transport, marinas and related maritime infrastructure. He managed approvals, coordinated environmental clearances under Maharashtra’s government, and produced technical policy materials and engineering booklets for field teams. This experience gives him unique insight into the legal, technical and policy dimensions of infrastructure and maritime development.
During his tenure at PWD Maharashtra, he earned several esteemed awards and recognitions for his excellent services. He has been member at several esteemed associations, Corresponding Member of - GOI, G-1 Committee (Project Preparation, Contract Management, Quality Assurance and Public Private Partnership Committee), GOI, G-7 Committee (Intelligent Transportation System Committee) and National Quality Monitor at National Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (NRIDA), GOI to name a few.
